Great phone call

So I just got a call from my dad.

Dad: The stock market is doing really well, so I'm going to give you some money. Would you like me to write a check to you or to your credit card?

Woo hoo! I have no idea how much it's going to be, but I just gave him my account number and he'll be going to the bank in the near future to transfer money to me. We decided to do it that way since he has to go to the bank to transfer money to my brother anyway. He knows that Chris and I are working to get out of debt, so this will be a nice bonus to that. When we started our debt reduction plan last March we estimated 3 years to get out of debt. Ugh. It just seems to go on forever. However, when I look at home much we've payed off already I am really impressed. I think we need to re-evaluate things again though. I know I have a very difficult time sticking to a budget. I am very much an impulse shopper, as you can see from the previous post.

That's great news - any specific reason for that particular call from your Dad?

No reason other than to figure out where/how to send me money. Love that! Normally his calls are very chatty, but this one was pretty straight to the point.

WONDERFUL!!!!!!! my mom does that kind of stuff for us too. i think it is a great thing to do for your YOUNG loved ones!!!!! I am also an impulse shopper....i feel your pain, but I am impressed with how mature you and Chris are about debt. Considering you two are a young couple with no kiddos YET! Great job!

Britt- We've realized that we can't afford kids until the debt is paid off. We don't have any extra income for daycare, and I don't think we coudl manage on one salary. We want kids, so that's kind of an incentive to get debt paid off.
Plus we wnt to buy a house and I don't want to do that while we have as much debt as we do. The goal is to owe zero dollars- no car loans, student loans, credit cards, etc.

That is a wonderful plan, and I for one applaud you and Chris for that. I wasn't mature enough to make those proper decisions when I was your age. Hubby and I were broke and in debt for the first 6 years of our marriage and had two kids......now we are older and wiser......Good for you for doing it the "smarter" way before kiddos are in the pic!! Are you wanting to be a STAY AT HOME mom? from your earlier post I got that impression!

I would love to stay at home, but as the primary breadwinner, if someone gets to stay home it won't be me. :( Ultimately, when the time comes, we'll need to compare daycare costs to Chris' salary and see what makes the most sense.
